The City of Vernon, California was incorporated as an industrial city in 1905. Since that time it has further clarified its mission, strengthening it's local authority by becoming one of the 25% of California cities to operate under its own unique charter. The focus on industry, on providing superior public services and a strong Chamber of Commerce, has resulted in a community of approximately 1,450 businesses responsible for approximately 45,000 employees. In 1986 Vernon created the City of Vernon Redevelopment Agency. This agency's principal duty is to assist in the rehabilitation and modernization of the city's older industrial facilities. Many are redeveloped as food processing plants. Food processing is an industry which has long been associated with the city, but there are also new businesses in warehousing and manufacturing, and the past six years has seen consistent growth in all three areas. The Federal government has designated these redevelopment sites as a part of the SELARC Regional Center. SELARC is pleased to be authorised to invest in the Vernon industrial community. This community, just five miles south of downtown Los Angeles, has been serving Southern California for over a hundred years. It offers a prudent, reasonable investment. Any participant in SELARC's Regional Center is free to establish his residence anywhere in the United States while also investing in the City of Vernon, known throughout the world as a premier location for industry and business. |
